Standard

As mentioned in my previous post, I’m challenging myself by diving into the world of reading novels. The first book I am reading is called 냉면양 만두군 배틀기 which means, as far as I can tell, ‘The Twist(?) of Miss Cold Noodles and Mr. Dumpling’. I’m not quite sure about the translation of 배틀기 but hopefully it becomes clearer through context as I read on……. hopefully. We’re only at the title and I’m already confused!

My thoughts:

Based on the Table of Contents, it looks like this is a love story between the owners(?) of two rival restaurants – one specialising in cold noodles, the other in dumplings. Mr. Dumpling, as the book calls him, is cool-headed, while Miss Cold Noodles is loud – the classic situation of “opposites attract”. I’m a huuuge fan of Korean dramas, so I’m quite looking forward to watching this rivalry turn into romance. Each chapter is 20-30 pages long, so I’m going to try to read one a day – at the slowest, one every 3 days – but I’ll have to get started to see what my pace is and if that’s actually realistic (haha). I’m super excited.

Challenging a Korean Novel!

Standard

Today I went to the ‘World Languages’ section of the local library and grabbed some Korean books (OUTSIDE of the children’s section this time…. :O). The books I picked have a fair amount of dialogue in them so I don’t think they should be TOO hard…… that said, let’s see how this goes. I’ve never managed to FINISH an entire book in any language other than English before, and I’m really determined to get through this

The three books I’ve chosen are:

  • 미나 written by 김사과

Let’s do this!

Update: Changing the format of this thing

Standard

Hello, everyone. It’s been a long time since my last post! I think summarising lessons concerning things I learned a long time ago just wasn’t really getting me anywhere. Plus, the material I wrote was based on Talk to Me in Korean’s lessons which anyone can access for free anytime, so they weren’t really helping anyone. I’ve decided to change the format of this blog to something more interesting, and hopefully that’ll give me motivation to make posts a lot more frequently.

I’m still not quite sure exactly what I’ll be doing, but it’ll be based more on practising my Korean and learning through Korean found in the wild rather the dry process of grinding through textbooks. I also want to incorporate my hobbies in here. Basically I have a lot of ideas and I’m just going to see what I feel like doing. Stay tuned!
